Job Description:

The Sr. SQL DBA will be involved in all aspects of the SQL server infrastructure and operations, including the plan, design, engineer, implementation and administration of vital business databases. This will include all MS SQL database technology related to installation, maintenance, upgrades, emergency restoration and disaster recovery, troubleshooting of recurring technical problems and providing technical assistance to IT and business unit customers via phone, e-mail and onsite consulting.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, test and implement database designs that support new and existing business applications
• Provide database definitions, structure, documentation, and long range requirements
• Ensure data recovery, maintenance, data integrity and space requirements for the MS SQL Server Database environment
• Work with developers on new development projects and systems.
• Applications support, problem resolution related to the RDBMS and Windows platform environment
• Performance tuning and monitoring of various databases
• Backup/recovery, installation & upgrades of RDBMS
• Knowledge of Oracle is an advantage but not necessary Should have worked in high volume web sites.
• Pager duty once in 3 weeks, supporting weekends
• Full knowledge of the MS SQL Server environment, including all aspects of replication and recovery is required
• Deep knowledge and demonstrated expertise in an Internet eCommerce Site environment is required
• Extensive experience with troubleshooting and analysis tools is required

The Sr. SQL DBA will determine user's requirements for database performance, security, capacity and scalability. Direct responsibility for designing database architectures that continually meets user requirements, developing and testing prototypes, and validating designs to user's satisfaction. This individual must articulate the benefits of the design to a user's satisfaction, and have the ability to document a design for operational success.

Qualifications

• Very good in trouble shooting problems
• Experience guiding and leading a small team of DBA's
• BS in engineering, computer science or equivalent with 5-7 years of proven experience doing production support (not development) of a highly transactional, dynamic database environment.
• The successful candidate will have strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple projects with necessary follow-through
• Must have experience working in a highly active environment with 24x7x365 technical management experience. This includes very good knowledge of SQL Server 7 and SQL 2000 and its interrelationship with the OS
• The environment relies on global server load balanced (GSLB) web sites; geographically disperse service centers and retail stores
• The candidate will rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Performs a variety of database tasks, while leading the work of others
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected, with the ability to formalize and document conceptual design
• Certificates in various database technologies are desirable

Systems integration and NT experience are desired
